Editor's Note
Immigration in the United States is complex. The assault Trump is making on immigration is broad, and scattershot, and goes after legal entrants as well as asylum seekers and refugees. Trump is also attempting to override the constitutional birthright citizenship. Marjorie Cohn does an excellent job of taking us through these complexities and leaving us better informed. His administration

The administration has taken down internet access for asylum seekers and has canceled all applications. Trump is sending the military to the border, though under law their role should be very limited.

Editor's Note
Trump and his deportation henchmen have made clear that indiscriminate sweeps will start on day one of  Trump’s second term. Editor's Note
[I am running a trial of offering my Editor’s Note in an audio format. This is my first attempt.]

Do we need to get out of our heads and into our hearts? It seems to me that we humans are having some serious mental issues and that we need to step back, take a breath, and listen a minute. Listen to our breath, the breath of the person next to us, the breath of the Earth in the sigh of the wind.

Report from Germany: Refugees Welcome – Sometimes

[Graphic via Open Clipart.]
By William T. Hathaway

Editor's Note
Anti-immigrant sentiment is a growing problem across western Europe. It has been and is being, weaponized to mobilize right-wing support. There is a long history of interaction and support between white nationalism movements and organizations in the U.S. and in Europe. The recent rise in white nationalism in the U.S. is being matched in Europe and there is a fair amount written about it. For example:
